Marks the Beginning of the First 24-hour JCI Accredited SMART Teaching Hospital in AJK.
A landmark ceremony occurred at the Kashmir House in Islamabad on March 12, 2023, to celebrate the foundation laying and groundbreaking of the first-ever 24-hour Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited SMART Teaching Hospital in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). This charitable initiative has been made possible by the generous support of Developing World Healthcare (DWH), a UK-based international non-governmental organization.
The honorable Prime Minister of AJK attended the momentous event to lay the foundation stone, demonstrating the government’s commitment to this project. The event was hosted by the renowned Ijaz Fazal, anchorperson of UK-based TV channel C44. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished guest list, including Dr. Shah Nawaz, Vascular Surgeon; Dr. Adeel Iqbal, Acute Medicine Consultant (TBC); and Zaheer Akhtar, Health Secretary.
During the event, Abid Hussain, CEO of Developing World Healthcare, presented the vision for this innovative healthcare facility. The hospital aims to provide state-of-the-art healthcare services around the clock to the people of AJK and the surrounding region and serve as a center of excellence for medical education and research.
The groundbreaking ceremony also featured a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing and a Land Document Handover ceremony, further solidifying the cooperation between the AJK government and Developing World Healthcare to bring this project to fruition.
